Values Don’t Pay

Values don’t pay

Pursuing values doesn’t pay off — or at least, it doesn’t spark enthusiasm or attention. I thought that my initiative of donating 25% of my AdSense earnings to an open-source project chosen through a poll among users would be appreciated. Instead, it has been totally ignored, forgotten, and marginalized within my YouTux project, even though it represents its beating heart.

The donation posts get a few likes, maybe a comment or two, but in terms of pure engagement, in terms of pushing users to reflect on such a crucial aspect of our ecosystem, the result is zero. They even forgot about the initiative — I didn’t make any donations for two months and no one raised a hand.

This is a fast and superficial world, where true values have little space, while everything is crowded out by content consumed like sandwiches in an information-obese society that fills itself with nothing.

I love my initiative because it reflects what I believe in, and in the end, whether it’s just me or 10,000 others doesn’t matter. But I really thought I would create more awareness — not indifference.
